I spent Saturday hanging around the exhibit and talking with dozens of people who came to Cotuit to view it - some for the first time and others who just needed to see it again. I continue to be relish the community response to The Key Idea™. I have heard that this exhitbit really touched a lot of people. It made them laugh, it made them cry. One of my favorite comments, "I just can't stop thinking about it". A favorite comment for artists!

I feel so full. I am so grateful to all who participated in the first version of The Key Idea™ Our Cape Cod Community told a story. It is the last day to see this version... a book is in the works.. I was touring The Key Idea™ exhibit this morning. Our community has so much to say...I am so touched by the sincerity of the people who participated. I have been asked to post more pages of artwork. So, they are coming back by popular demand. I'm feeling the love. This piece was done by Madison age 6.
The Key Idea™ mini exhibit is now open in the Meeting Room at the Barnstable Town Hall. Another chance to see it and participate.
I like them and have liked them for as long as I can remember, going back 50 years. I had a bracelet with a lock and key that I loved and wore it all the time. I lost it the day my grandfather died when I was ten. I have sewed keys onto my clothing and hats when I was in high school, and I have added them to many art projects over the years.
I like that keys come with a history of their own. I have been given thousands of keys that people carried with them every day. I feel a connectedness to people I will never meet. I think the folks who do The Key Idea™ project feel this too. When riffling through the keys, I have heard so many people say, "this key feels really good." In the past few years, I just decided to embrace my fondness for keys and the powerful metaphor that they can be. I found this resonates with others too. The Key Idea™ explores what is important at all ages of life through the powerful metaphor of a key. Look for daily posts on FB Explore Art The Journal Project ©
I've been enamored with keys for decades. I just like them. I like the mystery of not knowing the story behind them. Who carried the keys in their pocket or purse? What did they lock? What did they open?
Earlier this year, I put an ad in the Cape Cod Times asking folks to donate unwanted keys to inspire community art. More than 1000 came to me and now I'm giving them away to inspire people of all ages to make key inspired art and writing. Join in... Did any of you know Carol? Monday will mark ten years since she passed away from breast cancer. I think of her so often as I build the arts education program at Cotuit Center for the Arts. What fun she would have had there! I'm planning a small event for people who knew her. Did you?
These Pinocchio figures are great for teaching drawing. I need more. Does anyone have one they could give away to Cotuit Center for the Arts? Any size is fine. I have a tiny one that was unable to make it to the photo shoot. Missing pieces are ok. One has a pencil for a nose. I need some more mannequins too. Thanks!
