What do you do?
Both simple and profound, The Key Idea Project unlocks, collects and showcases the big ideas of adults and children as inspired by used keys. We often reveal the optimism in a community. Our signature project is on hold for now.  Read some KeyStories here.

We would love to have you participate!  We have kits with keys and art papers for KeyStories, you can hide some KeyStones in your own community for others to find or you can use your own keys and send us a short video. Please support us by spreading the word and sharing the stories on FB and Instagram.  More details

Can I just send you my own story without a kit?
Yes, please do. The paper needs to be durable.  We suggest 140lb watercolor paper cut to 5.5 inches square.  We know it is tempting, but please no 3D pieces. Please give us permission to include your KeyStory in an exhibit or publication.  Details here.

How did the project get started?
The Key Idea Project began in 2014 with the Cape Cod and Islands Art Educators Association. We were looking for a project that would be meaningful, challenging and manageable for art students in grades pre-k through college. The Key Idea Project was an immediate with all school districts on Cape Cod participating. It was a hit at our annual event - parents and grandparents wanted to make a KeyStory as well. The project has continued to grow and expand since then.   See more.

Do you need keys?
We always need keys. As people create their KeyStory, we ask if they'd like to keep the key that inspired their artwork.  Most people want it, we have given away over 5000 keys! Please send your used keys to  The Key Idea • PO Box 304 • West Hyannis Port,  MA • 02672

A few years ago, I placed an ad in the
Cape Cod Times Write to Know section asking for used keys.
The response was tremendous.
It was as if people were waiting to give them to someone who would use them.
Now we need more. Can you help?
