I've been thinking about new types of classes for the new year. The idea of a Visual Memoir keeps coming up. We could create pages to represent the most influential or significant experiences of our lives and what we learned from them. I know I am not going to pen my life story but to write a few paragraphs supported by photos, drawings or other ephemera seems doable. What are your thoughts?

Lenore Lyons

Lenore Lyons is passionate about igniting the spark that happens when people think creatively and get big ideas. There is something about riffling through a large tray of keys that encourages people of all ages to think about possibilities for their life and their loved ones.

She’s not sure exactly why, but hundreds of people have picked a key and said with satisfaction, “this feels good.” Then they are open to writing about their important ideas.

The keys all have a history and have been donated by countless people in the USA and elsewhere.. We always offer, and most people choose to keep their key. I like the ideas that strangers who will never meet are somehow connected by this simple yet powerful object.

The current project, as election year approaches is The Keys to Our American Dreams. We hope to discover the truth is a Maya Angelou poem, “we are more alike my friend than we are unalike.”

Lenore is the founder of The Key Idea, Inc. This large-scale community engagement project invites folks from 1 -100 to respond to the same art and writing prompt. We tend to lock and unlock important things and this project highlights what is important at different stages of life.

Lenore wants people to have fun with the arts and enjoy the process. She has her masters degree in education, has taught thousands of children and adults with her certification in Visual Arts K-12 and Elementary Education. She is currently teaching art at locations across Cape Cod She is the former president of the Board of Directors of the Cape and Islands Art Educators. She is a Barnstable Hometown Hero, and featured in the book, I Am of Cape Cod, by Whelan and Rodriques
